Author, Author, Shine Out Loud, "The Book of Nonsense" for Young Adults

The Book of Nonsense (Forbidden Books, Vol. I).   The Forbidden Books series is in the hands of producer Kevin Bannerman (Lion King, Ice Age, Curious George) and screenwriter Karen Janszen (Dolphin Tale), who are developing it for film. Below is a review of the book.

By Amanda R. Smith on June 2, 2015

Format: Paperback

There’s a line from Nathaniel Hawthorne that reads, “Words—so

innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how

potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows

how to combine them.” On its surface The Book of Nonsense is a young

adult adventure story about twins who uncover and attempt to

stop a centuries-old plot to unravel and re-form the world as we

know it—through the discovery and use of the Words of Power from the

First Tongue, the language that is rumored to have brought the

universe into being. And this brings us to the core of The Book of

Nonsense: It’s actually a meditation on the power of language. It’s

both a cautionary tale about how the words and ideas contained in

books can be warped and used for terrible harm in the wrong hands

and a celebration of the way those same words have potential to do

great things in the right hands. The problem, however, is that so

many hands seem to be the wrong ones. The power of the First

Tongue is not presented as something especially desirable, but

rather something so strong that it can’t really be wielded with any

guarantee of safety—even by those with the best of intentions.

Potent for good and evil, indeed.

While these may seem like heady thoughts, the adventures of Daphna

and Dexter Wax do make the themes accessible and palatable to young

readers by pitting the young heroes against at least two truly

terrifying foes. Asterius Rash and his hulking assistant Emmet are

drawn in grotesque lines, all gnarled joints and ruined eyes. Rash

(even his name is gross) is driven by literally blind ambition, and

Emmet is obsessed with his only lifelong goal, finally getting to

kill someone. Rash uses the Words of Power as heavy weaponry to bend

others to his distorted will—he is the personification of the ways

power can corrupt.

Daphna and Dexter, in contrast, are innocents, drawn into a

situation that is well over their heads, but they have to make the

best of things. While twins are generally supposed to be close

allies, the Wax twins don’t really like each other and could not be

more different. She’s a bookish goody two-shoes, and he’s engaged

in mindless rebellion—but both are using these tactics to cover up

deep insecurities that seem to only begin to heal when the unlikely

pair joins forces. They become more likeable when they’re working

together, and it’s easy to root for them to succeed.

The plotting here is fast-paced but the way threads that seem

insignificant eventually tie together is immensely satisfying.

Efficient is the best word I can use to describe the plot—Slater

packs several millennia’s worth of events into a densely packed

timeline, but it never feels rush or as if events are getting short

shrift. And while the outcome of the adventure is deeply poignant,

as the first installment of a series, the ending strikes the

balance of wrapping up just enough while leaving room for the

adventure to continue.

Author Author Shine Out Loud Review: Joyce Meyers' Enjoying Where You Are on the Way to Where You Are Going.

Sometimes you come across a book when it first comes out and then perhaps you lose sight of it or it sits on your book shelf.  I purchased this book when it was newly published in 1997 and then left it in a doctor's office to repurchase again recently and the serendipity in all of this that it was just the right time for me to read Joyce Meyers Enjoying Where You Are on the Way to Where You Are Going.

Joyce makes the idea that Life is a Journey come to "life" on the pages of this book and how making a decision to enjoy life can release you from both regret and dread.  There are simple examples from her own life of finding Joy can peache and how to find it for yourself in simplicity and childlikeness.

Joyce has the courage to address the complication of religion and legalism and also the proclivity for many to believe they have too many problems to enjoy life and how some poison their lives and their joy, waiting and saying, "I will be happy when…"  She even addresses how to not just cope but to live joyfully while waiting on God's answers.

Whether you are wishing, hoping, dreaming or just not living a life of joy that should be yours, this is a great guide on how to be joyful in all situations, without even breaking a sweat, stubbing a toe or chipping a nail.

Author, Author Shine Out Loud, New and Noteworthy Book, "Gift of Holiday Valley"

Merry and Christmas are two delightful friends who em-body the spirit of Christmas in a town that revels in what we know as Christmas Spirit year round. They just don’t know that it’s anything other than their traditional way of life. Until one day their curiosity about the outside world gets the best of them.

This leads them on a journey of discovery that is hardly what they expected. Could it be that their journey and discoveries bring major change to Holiday Valley and the outside world?

Well that’s a spoiler alert. Just know that there is a rule in Holiday Valley about not visiting “The Outside” for a reason.

“A great allegory with symbolic characters, actions and imagery that will captivate young readers and still teach a great lesson. “

Joanne Quinn-Smith, National Small Business Administra-tion Journalist of the Year

"The Gift of Holiday Valley" by JoAnn R. Forrester is both charming and clever. More importantly, the author presents the notion that holidays are opportunities to reach out to others in warm and lov-ing ways regardless of your ethnicity, religion, or nationality. To read this book is to smile!"

Joyce Faulkner, Award-winning Author of "In the Shadow of Suri-bachi," "Windshift," and "USERNAME" and former president of Mili-tary Writers Society of America

About the Author

Rebecca has been an illustrator for 6 years and however is her debut as an author/illustrator

As a child she always wanted to be an artist.

Rebecca attended Messiah College and graduated with a degree in Drawing and Illustration.

She worked as a graphic designer for 9 years before returning to her  first love – drawing.
She is married with 4 children, 2 biological, 2 adopted.

She loved being a mom but felt that an important part of me was missing after so many years of not creating art.

It was frightening to begin a new career with 2 small children with a 3rd on the way.

It was a challenge to find herself again as an artist and then learn about the publishing field.

It was also a challenge to learn to balance her “Mom” job and her illustration job.

Author, Author Shine Out Loud! From Mystical Memoir to Mystery Writer

Author, Author Shine Out Loud! From Mystical Memoir to

Mystery Writer

Dana Micucci has enjoyed a decades-long career as a widely published journalist and author writing about culture, travel, and spirituality. She is the author of a new novel, The Third Muse, an international art-world mystery inspired by Renaissance ideals and the divine feminine teachings of the Magdalene Order. Her last book, Sojourns of the Soul: One
Woman’s Journey around the World and into Her Truth, was a gold winner in the 2013 Nautilus Book Awards. She has a private healing practice and conducts transformational talks and workshops nationwide. DanaMicucci.com

The main themes of The Third Muse:

The wisdom of the heart. The transformative power of love. The divine feminine mystery teachings of the Magdalene Order.
The story/message of The Third Muse
--In Dana Micucci's new novel The Third Muse, a metaphysical mystery set in the international art world, New York  journalist  Lena Leone investigates the mystery of a stolen painting, the Portrait of Giovanna Tornabuoni by the Renaissance master Ghirlandaio. In the process, she undergoes a series of initiations that unexpectedly take her on a transformative journey deeper into her heart.

--The Florentine noblewoman Giovanna Tornabuoni, who is schooled in the divine feminine wisdom of the Magdalene Order, reaches out to Lena through time and teaches her about the healing power of love.

--Flashbacks to the  Renaissance period and Giovanna's life mirror the New Renaissance that we are experiencing now on many levels--in culture, spirituality, science, health and wellness, and ways of doing business-- through a great shift in consciousness .

Audience for The Third Muse

--Micucci wrote The Third Muse particularly to empower women.  She hopes the story of the soul connection between Lena and Giovanna, two women  six centuries apart, will inspire strength and courage in women for generations to come.

The author's  Journey in Writing the Novel and Why She  Wrote It

-- Micucci, a Pittsburgh native and longtime New York journalist who has written for many well-known publications, began writing The Third Muse in a garret in Paris 25 years ago.  This very  long labor of love is her fifth book and first novel. She says it was a test of her faith to keep  holding onto her vision and believing that The Third Muse would one day be published.  She is pursuing a film adaptation of the book, another one of her longtime dreams.

Unique Aspects about this Book

--Having studied fiction at Columbia University under the late novelist Raymond Kennedy, to whom The Third Muse is dedicated, Micucci  weaves together themes from her own life in the novel, which is set in New York, Paris, and Florence. She says The Third Muse, like her last book, the spiritual travel memoir Sojourns of the Soul: One Woman's Journey around the World and into Her Truth, is ultimately about the universal human journey towards wholeness.

The Author's  Career as a New York Journalist and Author.  Her Writing Process.

--As a journalist Micucci had the privilege of traveling to many exotic, sacred sites throughout the world. She chronicles these journeys and her own inner illumination and growth in her memoir Sojourns of the Soul, which delves deeply into the timeless spiritual  teachings of the world's wisdom traditions.

How The Third Muse Builds upon Prior Book the Award-Winning Sojourns of the Soul

--Both of these books--Sojourns of the Soul and The Third Muse--carry a heart-centered message for our time.  Micucci believes that we will be able to create a whole new way of being on a whole new earth, when we think with our hearts, see with our hearts, trust with our hearts, and lead with our hearts.

Other Projects

--She speaks frequently at venues around the country about Embodying the Wisdom of the Heart, where she shares powerful heart-based teachings and practices from the world's wisdom traditions (Tibetan, Egyptian, Mayan, mystical Christian, shamanic, etc. ) gleaned
from her lifetime of travel that people can apply to their daily lives.

--Micucci will be giving a presentation, Embodying the Wisdom of the Heart, on February 15 at Unity Center of Pittsburgh  from 12:30-2:30 p.m.  Register at www.unity center.com.

--Though she has traveled the world, she says she is proud to be from Pittsburgh, a city with so much heart. She makes frequent trips back to Pittsburgh to visit her family.  She is now based in Taos, NM, after many years in New York City.

What Author Hopes readers will gain from The Third Muse

--Micucci also has a private healing practice, having trained in energy and shamanic healing with many well-known teachers.  She says all her work--writing, speaking, mentoring, and healing services--carries a transformational healing vibration aimed at empowering people to live to their fullest potential.

--For information about Micucci's  audio course, Awakening the Mystic Within: A Course in Self Mastery for Higher Living, and her mentorship program, Divine Life: A Woman's Guide to Your Own True Power, visit her website www.danamicucci.com.
